Silver Family Tree ("we," "our," or "the platform") is a family tree building and communication platform available at silverfamilytree.com. We are committed to protecting the privacy and security of all our users. This policy describes what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights.
When you register, we collect:
Your password is protected using bcrypt, an industry-standard one-way hashing algorithm. This means your password is never stored in readable form, and no one — not even Silver Family Tree administrators — can ever see or recover your password. When you log in, we compare a hash of what you typed against the stored hash. The original password cannot be reversed from the hash.
Information you add to your family tree, including:
This data is visible only to members of your family tree. Other families on the platform cannot see your family's data.
Family Chat messages, voice calls, and video calls are facilitated through the platform. Voice and video calls use peer-to-peer WebRTC connections — audio and video streams are transmitted directly between participants and are not recorded or stored on our servers.
Important: The Email Cleanup Agent is an optional feature. You are never required to connect your Gmail account to use Silver Family Tree.
The Email Cleanup Agent helps you identify and organize unwanted emails (newsletters, promotions, bulk mail) in your Gmail inbox by moving them to a label called "SFT_30DAYS" for your review.
We use Google OAuth 2.0 for authentication. This means:

We do NOT store any email content, subject lines, sender information, or any other email data on our servers. Email metadata (subjects and senders) is fetched in real-time during a scan, displayed to you in the browser, and is never saved, cached, or logged on our servers.
Silver Family Tree's use and transfer to any other app of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Specifically:

When you disconnect, your encrypted refresh token is immediately deleted from our database and revoked with Google.
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with any third parties. Your family tree data is only visible to members of your family tree.
Silver Family Tree uses the Google Translate API to translate the user interface into multiple languages. Text sent for translation consists only of UI labels and interface text — no personal data, family information, or email content is sent to translation services.
We use browser local storage to maintain your login session and user preferences. We do not use tracking cookies or third-party analytics.
Silver Family Tree is a family platform. Children under 13 should use the platform with parental supervision. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 without parental consent.
